Forest Row Parish Council are proud to be running a Bridging Ages project from this September. This award-winning project has successfully brought together students and older members of the community to share their life stories and create a wonderful keepsake book.
If you would like more information, or want to get involved, please contact Sara Smart on 01342 822661.
What we do:
On Thursday 20th July the Thursday Club joined forces with the Wednesday Club and the FRVSN, Forest Row Village Support Network, for our annual seaside trip.
This year we went to Pevensey, East Sussex, for lunch at The Moorings Restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious 3 course menu and then a short walk along the beach.
Thank you to Graham our driver from Wealdlink Community Transport who drove us there and back.
So what do we get up to at Thursday Club?
The Thursday Club is run by the Council for our residents aged 60+ who are seeking a place to socialise and engage in a varied programme of activities.
We meet on the first and third Thursday of each month in the Community Centre from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Our programme of events includes trips out, interesting speakers, games afternoons, taking part in exercise sessions or just the opportunity for a chat. We also have a summer and Christmas event each year and a monthly trip out on the fourth Wednesday of the month in conjunction with the Wednesday club.
We charge just £2.00 for tea and cake with any outings or a few activities costing extra. We can also offer lifts for those who need one.
Please call the Parish Council office on 01342 822661 and ask for Sara or email email@example.com if you would like more information, or please feel free to just come along on a week that interests you. We’d love to see you. There will always be a very warm welcome for anyone wanting to come along and join us.
On Thursday 2nd March we had a visit from Dementia Support East Sussex to bring us one of their singing sessions. The afternoon was filled with laughter, song and even a conga line, it was throroughy enjoyed by everyone and we are hoping they will be returning on a regular basis.
We had our annual seaside trip to Hove Lagoon and Brighton on 27th July in conjunction with Joan Roberts and the Wednesday Club, apart from it being a very damp and breezy start the day was enjoyed by all who attended. A fabulous fish and chip lunch was had in a restaurant overlooking the sea and then a stroll along to the pier was had after.
On Thursday 2nd June Forest Row Parish Council helped celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday
with a fabulous tea dance. The event was a huge success, with members of the Wednesday and Thursday Club being
joined by members of the local community.
The fabulous local singing duo Sweetheart Swing provided a nostalgic trip down memory lane
with old time favourite tunes, a sing along and a chance to dust off our dancing shoes for a
quick step on the dance floor. There was a raffle with prizes kindly donated by local businesses
to raise money to continue to support the needs of those facing loneliness and social isolation in
older age. Everyone enjoyed a splendid afternoon tea, fit for the Queen herself, provided by our
wonderful volunteers which everyone commented on as being superb.
The afternoon ended with a sing a long to ‘We’ll meet again’ and a huge round of applause from
all that attended.
A big thank you to all that attended and especially to all of those people that helped make the
afternoon such a wonderful success by giving up their time to set up, make sandwiches, bake
cakes, make tea and clear away. Without you it couldn't have happened. Here's to the Queen’s
next big birthday. Happy birthday your Majesty.
